Rota & Support
👉You will work a standard 38-hour week, including a mix of days, evenings and nights.
👉The rostering regulations in Australia are strict, so hospitals must ensure their doctors have ample breaks between and after night shifts. If you work additional hours, the hospital compensates you with 'fatigue pay' at a higher rate for the entire shift.
👉You will be supported throughout, with a senior doctor available on call as needed.
Also, here is some feedback from a doctor who has been working in the Hervey Bay ED since 2015, and is still working there now:
Directly responsible for patients who attend the Emergency Department to assess, treat, stabilise, transfer, or admit as required. Plan treatment and discharge as a part of a multidisciplinary team for all in and outpatients seen in the Emergency Department. Clinical handover to the following Medical Officer at the end of each shift. Effective participation in all post-graduate educational and quality improvement activities. Experience includes dealing with acutely unwell patients and managing their life-threatening needs. Worked in the resuscitation department, majors, and fast track. The rota meant I was doing a mixture of shifts, including nights, where the ED was run by a PHO and juniors with an on-call consultant for further support. I was involved in procedures such as trauma calls, manipulation of joints, simple procedures, and airway management, including simple airway adjuncts to intubation. Gaining experience in difficult discussions with patients and relatives. Having positive feedback from the Emergency Department multidisciplinary team.
Pay & Perks
👉According to the Queensland Health pay scale, you can earn an annual salary of $95,000-125,000 per annum (£49,000-£65,000), depending on your experience level.
👉If you work additional hours, these are paid at enhanced rates (often 150% or 200% of your base pay).
Accommodation Support
👉Support with visa and medical council registration.
👉Up to 5 weeks paid annual leave per year
👉Up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year
👉Superannuation to the value of 11% of total salary. This is the Australian pension and is paid by your employer tax-free in addition to your salary.
Start Date
👉The hospital is looking for someone to start around Feb 2025, although there is some flexibility in this. So this is perfect timing after finishing your FY2!
👉You must be willing to commit to a 12-month period, but you can, of course, return home if there are emergencies or unexpected circumstances.
Eligibility
👉To be eligible for this role, you must have completed FY1 & FY2, including experience in A&E.
👉If you are an FY3 or FY4 with further A&E experience after completing Foundation Training, this is ideal and will really help your application stand out.
